Essex Pride 2026: Sunshine, Smiles and a Celebration of Community

A Fantastic Day at Essex Pride 2026

On Saturday 20th June 2026, Essex Pride returned to Central Park in Chelmsford for its 22nd year, bringing together thousands of people from across the county and beyond for a celebration of diversity, acceptance and community. As a locally based Essex photographer i have been lucky enough to document this incredible event year after year, it was once again an absolute privilege to be part of such a special day. The weather could not have been much better. Warm sunshine, blue skies and a gentle summer breeze created the perfect backdrop for one of Essex’s most colourful and vibrant events. Everywhere you looked there were smiling faces, rainbow flags and people simply enjoying being themselves in a safe and welcoming environment.

More Than Just a Festival

For many people, Essex Pride feels like one big family reunion. Every year, familiar faces return to celebrate together, reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Whether attending for the first time or the twentieth, everyone is welcomed with open arms.

One of the things I love most about providing event photography in Essex is capturing genuine moments between people. Essex Pride offers countless opportunities for this. From emotional hugs and laughter during the march through Chelmsford city centre to spontaneous dancing in Central Park, there is always a story unfolding in front of the camera. (Essex Pride)

The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible. There was a genuine sense of positivity, kindness and support that could be felt from the moment the Pride March began until the final performances of the evening.

An Amazing Line-Up of Entertainment

This year’s event featured an exciting line-up of artists and performers across the festival stages. Festival-goers were treated to performances from Natasha Hamilton of Atomic Kitten, RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Danny Beard and Cheryl The Queen, as well as Eurovision winner Katrina, formerly of Katrina and the Waves and let's not forget our local legend of a band The Vi5ion. Alongside these headline acts were many talented local performers, DJs, drag artists and entertainers who kept the crowds engaged throughout the day. (Chelmsford Theatre)

The variety of entertainment is always one of Essex Pride’s greatest strengths. Whether you were singing along to classic hits, enjoying spectacular drag performances or discovering new local talent, there truly was something for everyone.

Why Pride Still Matters

A huge amount of work goes into organising Essex Pride every year. Under the leadership of Garry Ormes and the dedicated committee, the event continues to provide a platform where people can come together, celebrate who they are and feel supported within their community. (Essex Pride)

Some people ask why Pride events are still needed. The answer was visible throughout the day. Pride creates a safe space where everyone can feel accepted, valued and welcome regardless of their background, identity or who they love. While significant progress has been made over the years, events like Essex Pride continue to play an important role in promoting visibility, understanding and inclusion.

As Garry Ormes often emphasises, Pride is about celebrating differences while bringing people together. It sends a positive message that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. (Essex Pride)

As one attendee perfectly summed it up:

“We’re not an exclusive club… we’re inclusive and you’re all welcome.”

That simple phrase captures everything that Essex Pride stands for.

Capturing the Story Through Photography

As an Essex photographer, documenting Essex Pride is something I genuinely look forward to every year. The colours, the energy, the emotion and the sense of community make it one of the most rewarding events to photograph.

Event photography in Essex is often about preserving memories, but Essex Pride goes beyond that. It is about documenting a movement, a community and a celebration of people being free to express themselves without judgement.

Every photograph tells a small part of the story. The smiles during the parade, the pride flags waving in the sunshine, the performers entertaining the crowds and the countless moments of friendship all come together to create a visual record of a truly unforgettable day.

A Family-Friendly Celebration

One of the things that makes Essex Pride so special is that it truly is an event for everyone. While Pride is often associated with celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, it is also a fantastic family day out that welcomes people of all ages.

Throughout the day, it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the event together. Parents, grandparents and children could be seen soaking up the atmosphere, watching the entertainment and taking part in the activities on offer. Essex Pride has worked hard to create an environment where everyone feels safe, comfortable and included, regardless of age or background.

The festival village was packed with stalls from local organisations, charities, businesses and community groups. Many of these offered activities specifically aimed at younger visitors, helping to make the event engaging for children as well as adults. Face painting proved as popular as ever, with colourful designs appearing across smiling faces throughout the day, while arts and crafts activities gave children the chance to get creative and make their own Pride-inspired masterpieces.

Seeing families enjoying the event together is another reminder of what Essex Pride is all about. It is a celebration of acceptance, kindness and community. It demonstrates that Pride is not just for one group of people but for everyone who believes in creating a welcoming and inclusive society.

The sight of children waving rainbow flags, getting involved in activities and learning about acceptance from an early age shows why events like Essex Pride continue to have such an important role to play in our communities.

Looking Forward to Essex Pride 2027

As the sun began to set on another successful Essex Pride, there was a shared feeling among attendees that this year’s event had been something special. Great weather, fantastic entertainment, an incredible atmosphere and a strong sense of community combined to create a day that will be remembered for a long time.

A huge thank you goes to Garry Ormes, the committee, volunteers, performers, sponsors and everyone who attended. Your passion and dedication continue to make Essex Pride one of the most important and uplifting events in the county.

Until next year, thank you Essex Pride 2026 for another unforgettable celebration of love, acceptance and community. June 19th 2027….see you there!!
